Global Markets Drop, Dow Plunges

European stocks suffered some of their biggest declines in 20 years yesterday, as the US Dow Jones Industrial Average plunged below 10,000 points for the first time since 2004. At its worst point, the Dow was down more than 800 points, but it rallied late in the day to finish down just 370 points. That same day, Japan’s Nikkei average lost more than 4 percent, Britain’s FTSE-100 lost nearly 6 percent, and the German DAX and the French CAC-40 lost 7 percent and 9 percent respectively. Even with the passage of a $700 billion financial bailout bill in the US, investors remain wary and fear that the plan will not be sufficient to reinvigorate the economy. More on the subject...
