A gene variant that interferes with the mouse-like vole’s ability to remain monogamous may also prevent men from bonding with their spouses and result in more unhappy marriages. A team of Swedish researchers found that men who carry one or two copies of the 334 variant of the AVPR1A gene are less likely to be married and tend to behave differently in relationships than men without the gene variant. The gene affects a brain chemical called neuropeptide arginine vasopressin, which generally affects blood pressure, and some scientists believe it is connected to men’s ability to empathize and communicate. Developed by Germany during WWII, the Vergeltungswaffe 2 (V-2) Rocket was the world's first modern ballistic missile and the first artificial object to achieve suborbital spaceflight.
