Long-Lost Primate Rediscovered in Rainforest

A tiny primate believed by many to be extinct has been found alive and well in Lore Lindu National Park on the Indonesian island of Sulawesi. For the first time in more than 80 years, there has been a live sighting of the pygmy tarsier; scientists even managed to capture three before releasing them back into the wild. Weighing a mere 1.7 ounces (50 grams), the Tarsius pumilus has large, bulbous eyes, thick fur, and bears a strong resemblance to the popular Furby children's toy. The mouse-sized primate is also able to swivel its head 180 degrees, an ability that proved painful to one researcher when she was bitten while fitting a captured pygmy tarsier with a tracking collar.
