Ginkgo Biloba May Protect Stroke Victims

The herbal remedy ginkgo biloba—an extract of ginkgo leaves—is believed to improve concentration and memory function, and scientists now suspect that it may also protect the brain from the damage caused by a stroke. Mice that were administered the extract daily before having a stroke sustained only about half of the brain damage that those not given gingko suffered, while those who received a dose five minutes after suffering a stroke sustained nearly 60 percent less damage in the day following the stroke as the mice that did not.
